High tech efficient engines are discriminated against by RUC

Road user charges are charged for all diesel engined vehicles. Small hyper efficient 60 mpg + diesel engines are all the rage in Europe. In NZ they face effectively tax discrimination which makes them economically less attractive that petrol cars.

Diesel cars with 60 mpg+ efficiency would immediately become hugely attractive to purchase. This would benefit the environment the economy and the public. see details

A lower RUC for high efficiency vehicles

All that really needs to happen is for there to be a second step, offered to higher efficiency vehicles. Perhaps 50mpg and above (which is about 5l/100km from memory). Suggest it, and then lobby it. Given the noise over the RUCs for trucks last ye... see details
