Should Easter trading laws be scrapped?

Easter trading laws require all businesses not providing "essential supplies in quantities which people in the area or traveling through may need" to be closed. Given the highly secular nature of New Zealand's general population and the fact that we are in a Global recession and our retailers could certainly do with an extra days trading shouldn't Easter trading laws be scrapped.
